20 Years Ago I Was A Stay At Home Mom, But Then…….

In late 1999, I was feeling unappreciated and invisible. Everyone else’s needs came before mine. I was at Petco buying dog food when I noticed a help wanted ad for a bather and I started the next day. A little upheaval in my household to say the least. But it was important to me. It was the first time I stood my ground and my family adjusted to the new reality.

I Was Happy Working For Someone Else, Until I Wasn’t

Again, I was being treated like a nonentity. I was unimportant to them no matter what I did or how hard I worked. In 2002, I opened Pawsitively Pretty Mobile Grooming Salon, LLC. It was an unheard of industry. I had nobody more experienced than myself to draw upon for guidance. Lots of lessons learned by trial and error. AKA The expensive way to grow a business.

Finding Business And Safety Continuing Education Geared For Me

Was near impossible. I realized that in order to get the education I needed, I had to take matters into my own hands. I was not alone in that respect. In 2006, I taught my first workshop. I have since gone on to become a recognized educational leader in the professional pet industry speaking at several national professional pet conferences every year since then.

2012 Was A Year Of Change For Me

I took chances and stepped out of my comfort zone to achieve all the things I had always wanted to do. I wrote my first blog and become a columnist for Groomer To Groomer Magazine. I received my first nomination of a Barkleigh Honors Award (one of many, including a win over the years!) I received the David Salzberg Cardinal Crystal Award for Outstanding Contribution To The Pet Industry. I launched the first incarnation of an online membership platform: Pawsitive Educational Training! (Note: first incarnation.)

I Was Sorely Lacking In Experience To Launch

That initial membership site. So, I found the knowledge and guidance I needed to make it successful. I understand the value of coach and mentors to guide me to where I want to be in less time and expense. But in meantime, I wrote two books geared for the professional pet industry.

Pepe was banned from many shops due to aggression. What if Pepe was not evil, but simply overwhelmed in a grooming environment? Could environmental and personal attitude changes impact Pepe’s experience?

a

The answer to that is a resounding yes. Over the years, Mary Oquendo and Daryl Conner have been building upon easy changes that have transformed the way they groom.

Holistic Pet Grooming is a compilation of those changes that positively impacted interactions with the pets in their care and changed Pepe, and countless other pets, from acting “evil” to being solid grooming citizens.

And Then 2020 Came Along

And it was time to pivot a bit. As I was already well versed in the online world, it made sense to grow by setting up and arranging virtual trade shows within the professional pet industry for associations, organizations, leaders, as well as manufacturers looking to reach their market since in person trade shows were not happening this year. It turns out that this has been a wonderful blessing for everyone.
